Information for Disabled visitors to Documenta11

Concessions are available for disabled visitors with certification of 70% disability. Disabled visitors registered as groups B, BL or aG in their ID cards can be accompanied by a friend free of charge. There are easy-access, no-barrier ticket counters for entrance tickets at the Kulturbahnhof, the Binding-Brauerei and at Friedrichsplatz opposite the Museum Fridericianum.

No-barrier Exhibition Buildings:
The Binding-Brauerei is completely at ground level and free of steps, the Museum Fridericianum and documenta-Halle have elevators with an internal door width of 90 cm, so that all the works of art are easy to access here.
At the
Kulturbahnhof an elevator is operated by the museum personnel at the entrance. Unfortunately one of the exhibition rooms (approx. 100 of 2000 m) is only accessible via a staircase.
Some of the artworks in the outside area
Karlsaue will probably not be directly accessible for heavy wheelchairs in wet weather.
Museum Fridericianum, documenta-Halle, and Binding Brauerei all have visitors’ restrooms suitable for wheelchairs (93 cm door width). At the Kulturbahnhof there is a staffed restroom (run by Deutsche Bahn) that is suitable for wheelchairs.

Guided tours for the deaf are planned for the weekends of July 6 and August 24, to be led by a deaf guide. Group tours for the hard of hearing will be provided using a radio guidance system. To book please contact visitor service:

Between the Museum Fridericianum/documenta-Halle and the Binding-Brauerei there is a kneeling bus service, line D11, provided free of charge by the KVG (Kasseler Verkehrsgesellschaft public transportation). At each stop there are ramps to enable step-free access. Visitors to Documenta11 can use the KVG number 10 bus between Kulturbahnhof and Binding-Brauerei free of charge with their Documenta entrance ticket. This bus is a kneeling bus with a wheelchair ramp. Between the Kulturbahnhof and the Museum Fridericianum is the Treppenstraße, a pedestrian-only street of steps that is not suitable for wheelchairs. We recommend wheelchair users to plan their visit to Documenta11 avoiding this street, either by taking the downhill route via Kölnische Straße and Königsplatz, or by using bus number 10 in the opposite, uphill direction. This bus to the Kulturbahnhof can be boarded at Königsplatz, which lies approx. 5 minutes by wheelchair from Friedrichsplatz.

Car parking for the disabled is at Friedrichsplatz/Museum near the ticket sales points, at the entrance to the Binding-Brauerei area and at the Kulturbahnhof.
