In her films, photographs, video and sound installations, Danica Dakić deals with the cultural, political and geographic parameters of language and identity. From her experience as a migrant she broaches the issue of the formation of identity and homeland due to social changes, globalization processes and wars.

The conceptual and visual point of departure of the piece EL DORADO; Gießbergstraße (2006-2007) is the panoramic wallpaper El Dorado (1848) from the Deutsches Tapetenmuseum (the German wallpaper museum) in Kassel, which is still being produced today. The old dream of El Dorado represents a utopian desire that marks the search for other, poly-vocal concepts of life. In the video installation young people with a migratory background stand in front of various historic and modern wallpaper in the museum and describe their imaginations of a better life.
